Crypto.com Tax Reporting: A Practical US Filing Guide for 2026

Crypto.com users may receive more than one tax form, but no form replaces a complete transaction ledger. This guide separates Form 1099-DA for spot dispositions, Form 1099-B for certain contracts, Form 1099-MISC for qualifying rewards, and the CSV records needed to calculate basis, transfers, fees and taxable results correctly.

Reviewed September 1, 2026. This guide reflects the IRS digital-asset reporting rules and Crypto.com help materials available on that date. Product availability and tax documents vary by entity, jurisdiction and activity, so verify the form issuer and the account named on each statement.

Crypto.com states that a US person may receive different forms for different activities:

Receiving a form does not make every number on it taxable income, and not receiving a form does not remove a reporting obligation. The IRS says taxpayers must report all taxable digital-asset income, gains and losses regardless of whether an information return arrives. Crypto.com explains its current document process in its official 2025 tax-year form FAQ.

What Form 1099-DA does—and does not—show

For 2025 dispositions, Crypto.com says its Form 1099-DA reports proceeds but does not report cost basis during the transitional period. A zero or blank basis must not be treated automatically as the taxpayer's true basis. Reconstruct basis from purchases, deposits, earlier wallets and transfer history.

The IRS Form 1099-DA explainer likewise tells recipients to use the form with their own records and calculate basis before filing. Broker basis reporting expands for covered digital assets in 2026, but a broker generally cannot report basis it does not have, especially for assets transferred into the account. Read the form year printed on the statement instead of assuming that the 2025 and 2026 rules are identical.

How to export Crypto.com transaction records

The Crypto.com App can export Token Wallet, Cash Account and Crypto.com Card histories as CSV files. Its App export instructions currently allow a report date range of up to three years and keep generated downloads available for a limited time.

The Crypto.com Exchange uses separate exports for wallet movements, deposits and withdrawals, orders, trades, lockup rewards and other categories. The official Exchange export guide notes different date and row limits and explains that some Exchange records begin on November 1, 2022. Download overlapping monthly or shorter files when limits are reached, retain the accompanying summary file, and confirm that the export did not stop at 65,000 rows.

Do not import App and Exchange files as if they were one account without checking internal transfers. A withdrawal on one side and a deposit on the other may be the same non-taxable movement and should be linked, not treated as a sale and new income.

Which Crypto.com transactions are taxable?

For the wider classification rules, use the US crypto capital-gains guide and the IRS digital-asset transaction FAQs.

CRO staking, Earn and promotional rewards

Do not label every CRO credit the same way. Staking or Earn distributions that the user can control are generally analyzed as ordinary income at fair market value when received; that value then becomes basis for a later disposition. A locked, disputed or not-yet-accessible amount may require a different dominion-and-control analysis.

Referral and sign-up awards are normally analyzed as compensation or promotional income rather than purchase rebates. By contrast, a reward tied directly to a purchase may be treated like a price adjustment under general rebate principles. There is no sound basis for the old article's blanket claim that every Crypto.com Card cashback credit is ordinary income. Record the program, triggering action, dollar value, timestamp and any restrictions so the category can be supported.

A Form 1099-MISC threshold is a broker reporting threshold, not a tax-free allowance. Taxable rewards below the threshold remain reportable. See the US staking tax guide for the income-and-basis workflow.

How Crypto.com Card transactions are treated

First identify what funded the purchase. Spending an existing fiat card balance ordinarily does not dispose of crypto. If Crypto.com converts crypto to cash before or at the purchase, the conversion is generally a taxable crypto disposition. The Card CSV, Token Wallet CSV and any top-up or conversion record should be matched by timestamp and amount.

Card rewards require a separate classification from the funding transaction. A purchase-linked rebate, a sign-up award and a referral bonus can have different federal income-tax results even when each is paid in CRO. Later selling the CRO is a separate disposition using the reward's established basis.

Crypto.com derivatives and Form 1099-B

Crypto.com says Form 1099-B may report regulated futures or options, including aggregate contract profit or loss in the contract boxes. Do not duplicate that result by importing every opening position, settlement entry and 1099-B total as separate taxable profits. Reconcile closed-contract profit and loss, fees, year-end open-contract adjustments and the exact contract classification.

Contract tax treatment is not determined merely by the words “futures” or “perpetual.” Section 1256 status depends on the legal contract and market, not the visual interface. Uncertain contracts should remain in a review worksheet rather than being forced into Form 6781. The US crypto futures and options guide explains this distinction.

A reliable Crypto.com reconciliation workflow

  1. Download every relevant App and Exchange CSV plus all tax forms for the filing year.
  2. Import complete history, not only the year of sale, because earlier acquisitions establish basis.
  3. Link deposits and withdrawals between the taxpayer's own accounts before calculating gains.
  4. Separate spot dispositions, rewards, card activity, fees, NFTs and derivatives.
  5. Reconcile Form 1099-DA gross proceeds by asset and Form 1099-MISC income by program.
  6. Investigate missing basis, unmatched transfers, duplicate exports and capped CSV files.
  7. Prepare Form 8949 and Schedule D for capital transactions and the applicable income schedule for ordinary rewards.

The IRS says individuals generally report digital-asset capital transactions on Form 8949 and summarize them on Schedule D. The Form 8949 filing guide shows the columns and reconciliation process.

Records worth retaining

The IRS record rule is evidence-based: keep enough information to establish receipts, sales, exchanges, transfers and fair market values. Use the crypto tax records checklist to organize the audit trail.

Crypto.com tax FAQ

Does Crypto.com report to the IRS?

Crypto.com may issue Forms 1099-DA, 1099-MISC or 1099-B for qualifying US accounts and activity. Check the filer named on the form and reconcile it to the complete account history.

Is a missing 1099 proof that nothing is taxable?

No. Taxable income and dispositions must be reported even when no information return is issued.

Why is basis blank on a 2025 Form 1099-DA?

Crypto.com states that it did not report basis during the 2025 transitional period. The taxpayer must reconstruct basis from their own records.

Are all CRO rewards ordinary income?

No blanket rule covers every program. Staking, Earn, referral awards and purchase-linked rebates require separate factual classification.

Is spending with the Crypto.com Card taxable?

A purchase funded only with fiat normally is not a crypto sale. A conversion of crypto to fund the card generally is a disposition.

Are transfers between the App and Exchange taxable?

A transfer between accounts owned by the same taxpayer is generally not a sale. It must be matched so software does not invent income or zero basis.

Does Form 1099-B prove Section 1256 treatment?

No. The legal contract and qualified market determine the treatment. Review uncertain derivatives before using Form 6781.

Can Form 1099-DA be entered without the CSV?

That is risky when basis, transfer history or fees are missing. The form should be reconciled to transaction-level records before filing.
